"The possibility that Democrats will build a muscular, 60-seat Senate majority
is looking increasing plausible, with new polls showing a powerful surge for
the party's candidates in Minnesota, Kentucky and other states."
Politico, October 5, 2008

Dear MICHAEL,

It's time to finish what we've started.

Over the last few weeks, there's been a dramatic shift in the most competitive
states where - thanks to your sustained grassroots support - we mounted
aggressive campaigns from the start.

We've got the Republicans on the run.

In fact, according to the most recent polls, Democrats are ahead in five of the
nine races needed for a filibuster-proof majority. And we're neck and neck in
at least six more states.

* In Minnesota, for example, the latest Star-Tribune poll has Al Franken
opening up a nine-point lead over Norm Coleman.

* In Kentucky, we've got the GOP leader - Mitch McConnell - on the hot seat as
challenger Bruce Lunsford is running about even with him

* In Georgia (Georgia!), two polls out in as many days show Saxby Chambliss and
Jim Martin within two points of one another.

* In North Carolina, Kay Hagan is up 49-40, winning in almost every part of the
state. This race looks so good for Democrats that a top McCain official said
"There's no point in even counting the votes."

And while this news should get you excited, here's a thought to sober you up:

Newspaper headlines that look good today won't be worth the paper they're
printed on if we don't have the resources we need to get our message out
tomorrow.

With fewer than 30 days to go, each day is a must-win. So while we are in a
strong position today, we need your help to stay there.

We're working toward a goal of $2.5 million by midnight Friday to ensure that
our candidates have the resources they need to win this week. You can help
remake the face of the United States Senate and start the process of repairing
the damage done over the last years by contributing now to the DSCC.

Click here to rush a contribution of $50, $75, or more to the DSCC. We'll put
your money to work immediately in the states most crucial to winning seats and
making history. Give today and my Senate colleagues will instantly double your
contribution.

We've been in this position before and our grassroots came through to help take
back the Senate.

We're in it again and can take advantage of a historic opportunity if keep our
noses to the grindstone and keep doing everything within our power to win.

I know I can count on you to be there for the DSCC. Thank you so much for your
continued support.

Sincerely,
Chuck Schumer
