Bulls kill their caregivers. Boars kill their caregivers. Stallions kill their caregivers. Rams have probably been known to kill their caregivers, they have certainly broken bones. Livestock do not love us the way dogs do. Male livestock animals are walking hormones and they are hardwired to the survival of the fittest imperative. To them you're just another sheep to be dominated. They are not pets, they cannot be made into pets. People who have worked around the same apparently docile bulls for years are killed by them. The ram who batters you has selected you for extermination. If you move out of his way you have conceded defeat. He won't change his mind and he'll work at it until he's eliminated you from the flock.

You don't need to brutalize a male livestock animal, but you DO have to respect that he's a four legged guided missile with only two things on his mind, dominate and reproduce. Oh, and maybe eat.
