Diane:

I don't tag my sheep until they need to be transported. The scrapie tags
don't need to be on sheep (it is my understanding anyway) until they are
18 months and sexually intact. Wethers don't need to be tagged at all.
If they are living there lives out on our farm, I rarely tag them. If
you have a large amount of sheep, then you may want to tag for
identification purposes.
