Selenium is a heavy metal just like arsenic. I would not have even
thought of injecting arsenic. If you really dig deep in the research on
the internet, There is not really a lot known about the interaction of
selenium and Vitamin E. They are complementary. It takes one to make
the other work. My vet who lives here talked to his dad who retired
from Head of vet medicine at OSU. He said that he remembered killing 40
head of baby calves with the stuff years ago when they used it for
vitamin E supplement. He said forget the selenium and use Vitamin E if
you think they need selenium supplementation.

I was trying to cure in 2 days what has taken 6 months to transpire. My
ewes have never had a problem with giving enough milk, or staying fat
with the way I feed them. A discussion with vets from sheep country
by my vet who was in Las Vegas this week at a continuing education
seminar revealed that Chlamydia and Campilobacter were the culprits.

No one really states how toxic selenium is. It is more toxic to our
sheep than copper......!!!!
We all know how we try to avoid copper. Also, the FDA only allows 27
grams of the stuff in a ton of feed!! That is pretty toxic if I read
this right...

We have wells on our rural water system that have to dilute to be below
the selenium and arsenic levels. That should have indicated to me that
it is not a selenium problem. Maybe vitamin E.
I should have done nothing. Instead I did something in a hurry due to
being upset about losing one that never got its colustrum.

So, do not get in a hurry, make sure that your dosage is correct and
always use the lowest possible dose unless you have to "go for broke".
If one dies, find out the real reason before sticking a needle in
another one...
