Mary: Sorry to hear about your troubles. Rustlers would most likely gain
access along your road frontage, rather than near you house, and would leave
some evidence (tire tracks on edge of road, etc.).  Four-legged predators
would most likely enter on the heavily wooded side and usually, but not
always, follow established game trails.  Raptors generally prey in large
open areas.  Game cameras (which I use to scout hunting opportunities) are
good but do have their limitations as noted by others. Another option maybe
to invest in the remote video cameras and a recorder. You still have to be
careful when you set them up to include potential access points but they
will provide better coverage (target does not have to pass within a set
distance to activate). The video cameras could also be used, after the
mystery is solved, to monitor any animals confined in the barn or other
areas for lambing or medical treatment.
