I live in Colorado where blackbellies are not well known. I sell primarily to an out-of-state breeding market and to a local freezer lamb market.
I charge $100 for lambs, irrespective of gender and also irrespective of whether the lamb is for breeding or freezer.
I charge $125 for ewes.
I have a polled bloodline, and polled rams are hard to come by. If I had a polled ram for sale, I probably would sell him for at least $150, more if he had already successfully been used for a breeding cycle.
In this area, blackbellies that are sold at sale barn auctions get on average $35 to $45. Buyers are always advised to beware purchasing stock at sale barns because you do not know what you are buying. Even if the sheep looks good (and most don't), you do not know the bloodline of the animals, what genes it carries, its breeding history, etc. Most animals sold at auction are culls, in other words, someone else's rejects.
