Good morning everyone Hope you are all warm and dry. We have no snow and it's been a really warm winter for up here. 20 during the day and dropping to 6-8 overnight. We usually have 3-4 feet of snow by now so this is a great winter so far.
I couldn't believe the weights you guys are getting, is this normal for you? I butchered 3 sheep in Oct. first was a banded five month old, dressed 35lbs, second was a banded 7 month old, dressed 42 lbs and last was a 15 month old ewe, she was 44lbs. We found a lot of leaf fat on the intestines but the meat was very lean with no fat between hide and carcass. Also, pricing of stock, I sold all my breeding stock at $200 a piece, total of 7 and the other three went for lamb that was sold at $3.50 a lb cut/wrapped and frozen, which worked out between $122-$155 per lamb. Had a two year old ram that sold for $300. We need to hold out of better, these sheep are better than most and everyone is undersaling them. Wishing you all a good christmas, may it be wonderful.
