Bobbie, I just butchered a pair of eight-month "boys" myself (both were banded) and they only weighed about 34 pounds dressed--exactly the same as "rams" I'd butchered in previous years. It was my first time to compare the taste, and the tastes were the same. My banded rams had no horns whatsoever--they looked like girls.

I just butchered a 8 month old wether. I was just curious if there was a
difference in flavor from an intact ram and a wether. Haven't tried it yet,
but will keep you posted. His dressed weight was 48 lbs. I did notice that
there were much smaller horns and less "rammy" attitude. If the meat is
good, I may continue to band due to the amount of children I have running
around here.

Sharon, Are you serious about getting "feed" for $4 a bag? What is it or how do you get it for less than half the feed store price?

The grain I feed is a mix special ordered without copper from a mill in
Cameron, TX about 45 min from my farm. Cost is closer to $4 per 50lb bag.
That and gas expense is cheaper than the feed stores.
