Chris H., yes we keep Magnum with the ewes all the time. The other three
farms we are "buddies" with do the same. The weather here is temperate
so the ewes come into season "when ever". We have had lambs born every
month of the year. Magnum is a real sweety and we have never had any
problem with him being a bully. We have never had any problem with any
of our herd sires as they must qualify personality wise as well as
conformation. Rams that rake lambs out of the treat trough have a short
life span.
Two of the other farms have Magnums grandsons as herd sires and they are
really mellow. Heather, our other friend, has had friendly rams that are
not related to Magnum but her farm is about the same small size as the
other three. I don't know if (mellow)ram personality is the result of
running with the herd, herd size, genetics or above average rainfall.
Let 'em run!
Best regards Mark & Lin
