We raise Barbs and Paints, a few
Corsicans and Texas Dall. However I just recently purchased a
full-blood
white Katahdin ram that is unusually horned.
I hope he will add size to flocks horns and scale weight. He seems
to be at least as gentle as my most gentle
sheep thus far, if not more so. I have done a great deal of research on
different varieties of hair sheep and have learned that those who are heavy meat
producers, i.e., Katahdin, St. Croix, and Dorpers are generally more gentle than
some of our Barbs. This can be a real plus with rams that sometimes get
half again bigger than their Barbado flock mates.
