I wanted to participate in these
emails i'm getting on a regular basis now. We Have three blackbelly ewes
and they are wonderful. We never had any real experience with sheep of any
kind but when we found ourselves with 10 acres of cleared pasture land we needed
something to eat it. We also didn't want a real high maintence animal that
neede alot of attention. We found that perfect mix in Blackbellies.
They are becoming tamer everyday and one know eats out of my hand. I worm
them on a sixth month basis and that's only if the need it. I also tend to
agree that the more you interfear with them the more work you might bring on
yourself. Mine have their own shelter but hardly ever go in there.
Usually the seek out the barn if it's raining.
They also have gotten out many
times because we had alot of fences down due to the hurricane. But they
wouldn't even leave the property. They would come back when they were
ready. They also have a real facination with my 2 cats. The ewes
will folow them all around as long as the cats will let them. I also have
2 labs that enjoy chasing them around the pasture- but if the sheep have had
enough the will start chasing the labs.
Anyway if any else has simular
stories i would love to hear them. Blackbellies are great and the more i
learnabout them the more i want to get more.
