Rick, what is the name of the company and address that you use in
Pennyslvania? We have been looking for other tanning places to compare
prices on tanning. We tried Moyle Mink but they said they wouldn't do sheep
hides. Would be very interested in that information. This is a busy time for
us with taxidermy since it is the height of deer season here in South Dakota
and in nearby Iowa. I have already decided that when we have to change rams
I want my husband to do Mr. Boots up so I'll have him with us forever. You
are very right that there can't be any fat left on them. Ted has a fleshing
machine and makes sure that there is none left and that the skins are salted
well and the moisture is completely out before shipping them out. We have
also found that the skins that come from sheep that are butchered in the
colder months are firmer than those of sheep butchered in the warmer months.
James, we get no magazines/newspapers that have to do with livestock. We
have only advertised locally twice - with no response either time. Most of
our sheep sales have come from taking our lambs to area sales and talking
with buyers there.
