Subject: SHEEP:WisLine Program on internal parasites
The second program in the annual Sheep Management WisLine series will take
place on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at WisLine sites in County
Extension Offices throughout the state of Wisconsin. Featured speaker for
the program will be Dr. Joe Tritschler, Sheep Extension Specialist, Virginia
State University, and he will address the topic of "Internal Parasite
Control in Grazing Sheep." There are few things that present as a great a
challenge to profitable sheep production as internal parasites. Sheep,
especially lambs, are very susceptible to internal parasites. Control of
these parasites will become even more of a challenge in the future because
many populations of parasites have developed resistance to many of the
compounds (anthelmintics) administered to sheep to control them. Dr.
Tritschler will provide information on how we can best combine management
strategies and the use of anthelmintics to control internal parasites and
decrease the rate of development of resistant strains of parasites.
The Sheep Management WisLine program is free, but participants must call
their local County Extension Office to register for this particular session.
This will guarantee that the WisLine site is open and that adequate copies
of handout materials are available. Further questions should be directed to
