When I went out to the barn today I found 2 dead little ewe lambs. :-( They were gone, but clean & dry, not too stiff, so not long passed on or frozen.
I didn't know I had anyone THAT ready to lamb. On 1/31 one of my sheep had twins, but I had been watching her, and her bag was huuuuuge prior to lambing. After finding the lambs, I checked under the tails... looking for a big bag that I should've seen sooner.... I couldn't find one! No one has a biiiiiig full-looking bag.
I couldn't find any afterbirth & the 2 ewes who have had twins previously didn't look like they had lambed.. they were spotless! Based on the lambs color, and what their last twins looked likem I have determined WHO I think had the lambs...
Both babies appeared to be fully formed, no obious deformities or defects. Neither one had their eyes or mouth open...but were cleaned up & dried off.
So.. FINALLY... my question...does it sound like they were still born? Or what?? If they were still born.. would that explain the lack of big bags on any of the ewes?
I've not seen any babies born, I just go out to the barn & find the proud moms & their babies... then lock them up for safety & enforced bonding. The set I found on the 31st was still wet & one was rather bloody, so I didn't miss them by too long...
