Carol, I was just going to follow up on my previous e-mail in regard to establishing a 'global' data base of polled Barbados Blackbelly in the U.S.
Can you give me your feed back if BBASI would be the best first step to get some basic information on breeding lines, or would it be better to contact known breeders individual and approach them about their records (within flock breeding, and also on sources and ID of breeding stock from the outside). I will be meeting with Bob Godfrey from the University of the Virgin Islands in Tulsa on Sunday and hope to start organizing the breeding records for UVI and us here at VSU. UVI has been a closed flock and has used line breeding (at least that is what I had started 15 years ago) ever since its inception. Here at VSU we have introduced genetics from both these lines, plus the different lines that came with Claude's donation. I also plan to get in touch with Claude to look at the current structure of his flock. Beyond that I will need for you to let me know if you want me to address other breeders individually or through the Consortium. I would like to use the initial data base as a 'carrot' to convince other breeders to add their information. Once we have some critical mass, I would very much like to place the data base under the umbrella of the Consortium, and set this up as clearinghouse for the information. - Let me know what you think.
