Diane,
I like that statement about " keeping their legs crossed"!!!!!

You wrote that you lamb & wean naturally... how do yours pop out babies so
fast?!!
Mine have been taking about 8 months!! Mine run with the ram 24/7... and wean
when they choose to.
Maybe my ram is not pushy enough... or my moms keep their legs crossed ;-)??

I know I have observed, some of our older ewes know how to keep the ram away longer/better than the younger ones do. Our dominant ewe will pee here and pee there and pee everywhere just to keep Boots away until she feels she's ready - at least that's how it appears to us. We started lambing in 2003 on Jan. 15th and finished on March 17th ( 17 ewes). Fall lambing started August 29th and finished the 1st week of October( 14 ewes). We again(2004) started lambing the 20th of January and have 2 ewes that have given birth so far. Have several that are very close. So i guess we are going about every 5 months or so also.
It seems as though if they are in estraus (sp?), Boots knows it and will pursue them til his duty is completed!!!! Hope this is helpful. Sue
