I band ram lambs that I plan to butcher. It's very simple, but you have to
make sure the testacies have descended into the sack. My sheep book
recommends ten days, but I've found that it's too soon. Three weeks seems to
be about right for my sheep.

Subject: [blackbelly] vaccinating & banding

Open question,

Is anybody banding their rams? I am considering this so that they may stay
with the herd longer, and to reduce fighting and head bashing among them.

In connection with this , does anybody do an annual vaccination on the ewes.
Example "Covexin 8" . This is what my vet has recommended I do, especially
if I do band., but I hesitate to use vaccines or other meds, unless
absolutely necessary. Any views?

Chris H.
