We have very little experience with the hair type sheep - down here wool is
king and anything that would downgrade it is not usually accepted. But our
wool and sheep meat industries are splitting into distinct groups and the
introduction of new breeds into the meat sheep is happening, as long as the
two flocks are kept seperated all should go right.

What I like about these breeds is the improved digestive system Africa and
australia are very much alike - our bulk feed is mainly brown grass and our
current breeds do not make full use of the feed value of brown grass where
as the african breeds do. We did attempt to improve the digestive system of
our current breeds by importing african gut bateria into our breeds but this
was not commercially viable nor biologically viable. By bringing in some
genetics of the african breeds hopefully we can produce the same effect over
time.

This letter tells lots, and in my eyes it is more important to get some
special traits back to the breed,
a perfect hair structure, low feed intake, easy birth and disease
resistance.
With all the inbreeding which has happened the last ten years, the breed is
down.
So lots to do and it is good to have so many of you which are interested in
the beautiful BB breed.

Regards Helmut
