Diana, if the Barbado name is changed to "Barbados Blackbelly--horned," what would the advantage be? We solve none of the naming problems that we have now--you have been shown that a great many of the Barbado people out there mistakenly call their animals "Barbados Blackbelly" already! If you think that just adding the word "horned" to it would improve things, it probably wouldn't. Too many people are already confused, especially because no Barbado ewes have horns! WHAT SENSE DOES IT MAKE TO CALL A BREED "HORNED" when maybe 75% (breeders keep more ewes than rams) of the sheep under discussion HAVE NO HORNS!
And then there's a problem with the name "polled"--in many people's minds, the word polled means "burned off," not naturally hornless.
You ask for consistancy. What is more consistant than keeping the most important part of the name--"Blackbelly"? "American Blackbelly" vs. "Barbados Blackbelly" is the way to go.

And Fred, I agree with you. Barbados Blackbelly of either sex have NO horns. Let's not let anyone breed horns into the female sexes of the American or the Barbados Blackbellies!

...so i think im with Sue on this one. Barbados Blackbelly, horned or polled, keep the name but let there be 2 categories. your next problem is how do you get everyone else to except it. Consistency needs to be established. Consistency in name, consistency in standards, characteristics of the breed. *polled and horned*

Diana

NO I DO NOT THINK HORNED EWEW'S SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE REGISTERED

THANK YOU

FRED
