Bobbie,

I feel like he shouldn't be so scared of us that I can't get him to follow 
the ewes to graze (I lead them in the yard) or go nuts, if we have to sit him 
down for a hoof trim/check.  

I'm really hoping to avoid hoof trimming.  Dh and I have discussed adding a 
cemented area in the shelter where the hay rack is and hope it will naturally 
help trim those hoofs.

Should we carry a bottle of water and spray him when he gets too close?
