Hi,

Yes, the mother ewe is a Barbado. I bought her and 2
other bred ewes who are also black with a few white
markings. I also bought a ram and ewe who are solid
black. The bred ewes were all bred by the same black
daddy, also a Barbado. The lambs that were born were
as follows, the white one you see here, a ram mostly
brown with a black belly and a few white patches, 3
black rams with white spots on their heads, 1 brown
ewe lamb, and a black ram lamb with white outlining
his face looking like a panda bear. The solid black
ewe got bred on my farm and had a solid black ewe
lamb.

>From what I've read online, solid black seems to be a
recessive gene that comes out every now and then.
Probably much like the black sheep from a line of
white wool sheep, or vice versa. We like the looks of
the black, especially when we see the various patterns
of color that come too. Like one ram lamb we named
General because he has a star in the center of his
forehead and a bar from horn to horn above it.

I pulled up a website for the painted desert sheep,
and although they look wonderful, they look uite
different than my Barbados, their hair is much shorter
and the colors are much more patchy.

It's great to hear all the different ideas on this
group. You're a great bunch of people,
