Devon, barbed wire doesn't work very well for sheep. You need a hard mesh like 4" x 4" squares, at least 5 feet high for sheep. And what to look for when checking water? You can not get a loan on your property without the well-water passing a test done by the county. They check for several things, but especially for contamination from animal feces.

(530) 889-1488im looking at buying some land right now for a home and to move my sheep on
to, there are 2 lots a 40 acre lot and a 20 acre lot, i plan on fencing off the 40 acre lot and selling the 20 acre lot. can i put up a barbed wire fence and not worry about them getting out, or would i have to do something more. i also read something about checking the water. there is a well on the property i would i have it checked and what would i be looking for?
just a few question from me to everyone.
Thanks, Devon & Fawn Http://groups.msn.com/LittleBuddy
Jennifer, wean your lambs between 2 and 3 months. If you don't take them away from their moms, they will nurse forever, or at least till the autumn when the moms finally get more interested in breeding. While my Barbado nurse, they won't come into heat till the fall. Wean them sooner and you might get more than one lambing per year.

At what age are you weaning your lambs?
How soon after a ewe lambs does she come into heat? Does it depend on how long she nurses?
