Hi everyone,
Guess I'll have to put my opinion in here. We have 1 ewe with " elf ears" - she is our biggest ewe and a very good breeder. She's twinned everytime she's delivered and delivers large lambs, which also grow faster than the other lambs. Her 1st set of twins had normal ears like their daddy. Her 2nd and 3rds set both had elf ears. Now her last set had a little ewe lamb with elf ears and a ram lamb with normal ears. Butcher her - NEVER!!! breed her - YOU BETCHA!!! The ewe has very hardy lambs and they grow fast. Her ist male lamb weighed 65 lbs. dressed out and he was a little under a year old. We have another lamb of hers that's a wether and he is over a year old - can't wait to see what he dresses out at. Then we just traded her fall ram lamb and the people who took him were suprised at how heavy he was at 6 months. Yes we take a chance on the ears but we want to keep her female offspring for the size they throw. Just my outlook. Sue
