I am asking a question for a friend of mine and for information for me to
maybe use in the future. How long do scurs get and how long to be called
horns? My friend has 2, 2-yr old rams. One has "scurs" growing curling
straight to the back of his head, staying close to the head. The other one
has "scurs" that grew sideways and curling right into the side of his head,
right behind the eye. She would like to know how these "scurs" can be cut
back, how far to cut back or if it has to be done by a vet. The one with the
"scur" going in behind his eye needs to be taken care of ASAP. It is just
touching the hair/skin now, a piece of paper can barely fit between the scur
and skin. This may sound stupid but this is my first experience with farm
animals and do the scurs/horns keep growing back after being cut? My 1 yr
old ewe has these little bumps, the start of "scurs." I would rather she
didn't have them, is there anything I can do to prevent them from getting
bigger. Our ram has the curling horns and we love the look of that, but not
the scurs on the ewe.

Thank you,
Julie Riha
