Mexico this afternoon reopened its borders to U.S. livestock, according to U.S. officials. Mexico took the step after initially closing their markets to U.S. sheep, goats and hogs based on a lack of adequate facilities to properly inspect imported animals. Mexico said it would utilize temporary facilities to inspect the imported animals as a way keep the situation from causing problems on the trade front. USDA said Mexico would eventually need to pass new legislation to avoid any future problems. Contacts say the suspension of imports came after Mexico started enforcing new rules which required inspections of U.S. livestock soon after the animals have been shipped into Mexico.

Someone submitted an article to the BBSAI group that said that Mexico opened its borders to sheep, goats and hogs. They are using a temporary inspection station - I understand lack of a proper facility was part of the reason for closing the border in the first place. Has anyone else heard anything?
