<< Hello everyone I'm new to this I actually never got the chance to write before.I live in Barbados and I manage a farm with about 200 BBB sheep and I would like to find out if anyone knows, what % of protein is adequate for optimum weight gain when rearing these animals under feedlot conditions? >> Hi Carol, Wow, 200 sheep. Sorry, I have no idea about feedlot conditions. During the winter when they are off green pasture I feed fescue hay and supplement with a sheep formula made by Southern States. (or whoever took that company over) I judge their condition by sight. None are bony, they have energy, bright eyes and have steadily grown since original purchase. My goals are most likely different than yours with a VERY small herd. (4 ewes and 1 ram and patiently waiting for lambs) :-) Is this herd new to you? Have you not had a feedlot before? Any idea how many BB sheep in existence on the island? Are they maintaining their parasite resistance? Do you worm? Does the herd open range?
