Hi, I would be very careful about putting this young ram in with the older one. The older one could very easily hurt, cripple or even kill the young one. I had a ram killed by another one - literally cracked his skull! If the younger one shows any aggressiveness and willingness to fight the older one, I would separate them or go ahead and remove the older one as you are planning to do.. . . . This is especially possible when one of your ewes comes in.
Although it is difficult, especially when you've gotten attached to a ram to have to cull him, it is the right thing to do. Good Luck!!
