This is my recollection of the conversation. I thought there was concensus that polled and horned are separate breeds, the confusion was in the name. I raise horned sheep, but conform to the breed standard. I'm not offended by anyone's assertion that my sheep are not Barbados Blackbelly. I just wish we could get this name thing straightened out so it is less confusing. It would prevent this type of misunderstanding.

And I think Preston should be banned. This list is helpful for breeders, but we'll lose participation if it becomes mean-spirited. That's what I like about it, we can have respectful disagreements without getting personal (and you don't have to insult someone's mother to get personal).

Hello Preston,

When I emailed you privately in response to the email you addressed to me
from this list I forgot to address this issue. Sorry my mistake. If I
remember correctly the subject that was addressed on the list and then
stopped was the pros and cons for changing the name of Barbado. Members of
this list were giving their views of what and why the name Barbado needed to
be changed. I do not remember anything about not discussing to making sure
members on the list understand that there are 2 breeds the Barbados
Blackbelly and the Barbado. If I am correct everyone on the list has
stopped talking about changing the name including myself. The email that
you are addressing dealing with my actions was making sure people are aware
of the correct names of the 2 different breeds. I am not doing this to pick
on anyone or the fun of corre! cting members of the list. I am just trying to
educate them as I was educated so when members sell, buy and/or trade these
wonderful breeds that no one will be misrepresented.

I hope this is clear so everyone will understand the difference of what you
are questioning my actions on this list.

Since you are a member of BBSAI you should have received a ballot that
addressed the members to vote on whether or not to change the name of
Barbado for the association. If you did not receive a ballot please contact
me or any Board member to assure you are able to vote.

Again sorry I forgot to respond to you about this issue.

Greetings Ms. Elkins,

You could at least get my name right. My given name is Preston. My family
name is Buck.

You accuse me of verbal abuse? I didn't insult Mr. Harper's intelligence,
parentage, upbringing
nor all him any names or use any profanity. A strongly worded argument, but
not abuse. I also
got his name correct.

However, I detect a bit of a double standard here. In a previous post in
today's digest, you
wrote 'Breeders MUST understand that if they have horned ewes or rams, they
do NOT own Barbados
Blackbelly sheep.' After you conducted you informal poll about polled vs.
horned genetics, you
said the subject was closed. Yet, Mr. Harper repeatedly makes the same
claim as you, and you
never publicly asked him to stop. Perhaps you don't want passionate
arguments and lively
debates about the issue?

Anyway, go ahead and ban me if you like. It's your list.

Preston Buck

Mr. Preston,

I will respond privately to you off list. But as a way of apologizing to
the other subscribers for your conduct, I must inform you that you are
completely out of line and any further emails that use this inflammatory
tone will cause me to immediately remove you from the list. Since 2000,
this list has managed to have great discussions among people who clearly
disagree with each other, and not once have we been exposed to such a
tirade of verbal abuse as contained in your email. We respect each other,
Mr. Preston, and we don't always h! ave to agree. I would be happy to debate
some of the issues you raise, but not until you demonstrate an ability to
communicate without malice. This is the only warning you will receive. If
you wish to complain, please address your email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and not to the list.
