Hi Diana,
I have crossed my katahdin/blackbelly cross ewes
with a 3/4 Dorper 1/4 katahdin ram for two years now.
The lambs are a good size at birth and very vigorous.
I lamb in Februrary and have never needed a heat lamp.
The lambs grow very fast and have a nice carcass.
The first year I didn't vaccinate until the lambs were
about 6 mos. old and nobody got any symptoms of
enterotoxemia. This year everybody was vaccinated and
I plan to keep vaccinations up to date. It's cheap insurance.
You are located in North Carolina and have access to some
of the best Dorper blood in the country. Contact me and
I'll give you the name of a farm that runs a ewe flock of 400.
The lambs are very superior in carcass to the pure blackbelly.
