Hi Rhonda,

The BBSAI is an open registry, meaning that sheep may be registered regardless of whether or not their sire and dam were registered.

Registering your stock allows your bloodline to be tracked so that

**people can determine if an animal they are buying is too related to ones they already own;
**people can see the lineage of an animal they are considering to purchase and thus determine how many generations of "quality" are built into that animal
**people can locate sheep from your bloodline even when you yourself have none to sell

The BBSAI plans to publish its registry in 2005, making it available to all interested parties. This would be a great time to get your animals listed so that you are recognized as a breeder. Although you must be a member to register sheep, the BBSAI charges only $5 to register a sheep under a year old. This modest fee covers postage and printing of the beautiful certificate of pedigree that you are provided upon registering a sheep. Many breeders register all lambs sold as breeding stock prior to their leaving the farm and build the cost of registration into the price of the lamb. This ensures that the animal's birth information is recorded, and the new owner feels confident of the quality of the lamb he or she purchased by virtue of its already being registered.

Since my females do not have horns or scurs and are colored according to
breed standards, will I be able to register them or must they have come from
registered stock?
