Joanna,
It is unclear what kind of sheep you wish to purchase.
Barbados Blackbelly sheep are polled in both sexes; i.e., neither the ram nor ewe have horns.
Rams of the American Blackbelly sheep are horned whereas the ewes are polled. There really is no "pure blooded" American Blackbelly because the breed results as a cross between the Barbados Blackbelly, Rambouillet, and Mouflon.
If you indeed wish to purchase Barbados Blackbelly sheep, please be advised that they are very hard to come by. There are only five or six breeders in the U.S. and most of those breeders belong to a consortium dedicated to preserving the breed. Consortium members try to place animals with breeders who also will work toward preserving the breed.
Please let the list know which breed of sheep you wish to purchase. If you want to purchase polled Barbados Blackbelly sheep, please contact me privately and we can discuss options.
Carol
