Has anyone had an experience like this?
A ewe had twins this morning, and one of the lambs has
a plucked out eye. He is not as lively as his sister
who is up and trying to nurse already, though he is
laying with his head up. As I write this, the lambs
are about 1 hour old.
This same ewe last year had triplets, who were all
dead when I found them, and all had one eye plucked
out. At the time, I figured it was chickens or
pigeons who had pecked at the eye of the dead lamb.
Would a chicken (I have one free-range chicken) or a
pigeon peck at the eye of a newborn, live lamb?
Both this year and last year this ewe was bred to the
same ram. She had a single lamb sired by a different
ram two years ago - no problems with that lamb. The
ram has also sired other lambs out of different ewes
with no problems.
Any suggestions or conclusions or even a similar
story?
