Well, I started a round of the Scour Halt too, actually giving the wether TWO 10 cc doses yesterday, with no ill effect. However, this morning when I realized that my ram is now "runny," the home remedy thing ground to a screeching halt and I called my vet!

He has just come and gone. Took temps and fecal samples from each, but reckons it's cocci. He was totally unconcerned, says that cocci just goes round and round this time of year. As long as they're not spewing out a lot of liquid feces, becoming dehydrated or obviously sick, there is little to worry about. These two are right as rain except for the loose bowels. He is going back to the clinic to check for cocci and decide which coccidiostat to recommend, and I told him, fine, just give me a kick-butt drug so I can get this over with. It was one thing to try to sort things out on a wether, but when His Royal Self is involved, the world ground to a halt until I knew for certain what was wrong!

Oh, and, ahem...he thinks my ram is just awesome! :o)

Anyway, cocci seems to be another plague of the warm/moist climate. Even if the sheep are not feeling any different, I got a great deal of relief from his visit!

Oh, and Hay Beth Stamper! With your new ram and your upcoming ewes - everybody, SHE is the culprit who caught the runaway blackbelly ewe that I fell in love with last year...SHE is the one that got me into this sheep mess! <VBG!> A thousand blackbelly lambs on you, woman! <VBG!> (And may they all be wonderfully healthy!)

Regards,
Barb Lee
