Afterbirth should be out by no more than 12 hours. Oxytocin shot causes it to remove much faster. I would suggest keeping a bottle handy. However, I always wait to be sure there are no more lambs to be born. There are times when it helps, for extreme labor cases, worn down mama, etc....
