I get a lot of email and calls from sheep owners, sheep wanna-be owners, etc. Thought I'd share with you today's little gem and the reply I sent. Hope you get a chuckle.

Subject: Sheep commands

Hi,

I am writing a musical and sprinkled throughout it are appearances by a few
sheep. I would like to be accurate in portraying their character. What
commands are used to make a sheep move or stop? (Without the use of a dog.)

Any help in this regard would be most appreciated.

Sincerely,

Michael,

One does not make a sheep move or stop without a dog. One is lucky to be able to do so WITH a dog! Sheep act instinctively and as a flock, much the way birds do.

Perhaps this might help:

To make a sheep move:
"Here sheepies!!! Come and get it!" (banging feed bucket and waving it in air to attract attention of sheep across pasture)

To make a sheep stop:
"Oh my God, the ram's loose!.....Whooooofffffff! (as all the air goes rushing out of my body because the ram charged me from behind and knocked me flat. He stops.

Carol

<sorry....couldn't resist>
