It has been my experience that the White Gene in the St Croix is VERY
dominant. They have been bred for it. I have done several crosses (all to
purebred St Croix ewes) and though I have had color the white is more
prevalent that anything else. I used a Blackbelly ram three years and only
got two lambs with color (brown and white). The cross I did this year was
my St Croix ewes to a 1/2 Kahtdin 1/2 B/W Dorper ram. I have had three
almost all white lambs, one with minimal color, one with nice pinto type
markings and one ram lamb 1/2 front half black with a white cap and B/W back
half (he is stunning) I still have four ewes to lamb two St Croix and this
year I also have two all black barbs ewes, it will be interesting to see
what happens with them.

Nothing scientific but I hope this helped.
