For those in selenium deficient areas, I have a question. I was advised by a goat friend to vaccinate with Bo-Se about 3 weeks before birth. When I got the bottle, there was a pronounced warning on the label and the package insert not to give Bo-Se to pregnant ewes as abortion and/or death could result.

Well, of course everyone was well and truly pregnant at the time, so I did not vaccinate. The sheep get selenium in their mineral, and also in selenium salt. They also get kelp (all three free choice and individually) which contains some selenium.

The label warning is apparently new. Does anyone have experience with this? When do you usually give your ewes Bo-Se?

Thanks,
Barb
