I know there was some discussion recently about dependence on libraries. I was building blackbox on a brand new machine (fedora core 1), and was unable to successfully build it until I had installed zlib headers (zlib-devel).
However, configure was passing just fine, without them! I was getting a message that, too a nonprogrammer, was pretty cryptic when running make. Something like "-lz not found".
