Blackbox 0.70.0 tries to obey both the aspect hints and the fullscreen hints (that's why it "works" if you watch a 4:3 film).
Indeed... this seems to be a recurring topic... And of course, what should blackbox do if the app says "make me fullscreen and keep the aspect ratio 16:9"? Hard to say...
I've just committed a fix to CVS that will ignore the aspect ratio (and maximum size) when show a window fullscreen. This should certainly help mplayer and other apps that do similar things.
