Aha! I love simple solutions. I'm sure I never patched BB, but I think Numlock got turned off at boot with my previous kernel and that isn't happening anymore. Many thanks! I tried KDE so I could get the desired focus behavior back, but it drove me batty, so am happy to get this fixed. -chris
