OK... so if someone can send me a couple zip files, I'll have a look at
them, and see if I can't create a conversion tool for both GNOME and KDE.

Can't be that hard... after all, I DID program scripts that automated the
entire process of configuring Apache/Bind/Sendmail for domains at the ISP I
work for.
