ok, maybe you're doing the script thing wrong. you can throw that list 
of commands i suggested in your .xinitrc and it should all work, or you 
can create a file called something like ~/.bbstartup, put all the 
commands in there and then call ~/.bbstartup from your .xinitrc instead. 
i know both of these work because i (and i'm sure just about everyone 
else on the list) uses one or both method.

if you start them manually in blackbox do they go to that location? i 
have mine configured to go where i want them in their individual rc 
files, so i dont get the stacking (except when restarting blackbox, 
which is another story).

in your ~/.blackboxrc change "session.screen0.slit.direction: Vertical" 
to "session.screen0.slit.direction: Horizontal". right clicking on the 
toolbar and selecting 'placement' will give you more specific placement 
options.
