Provided the ISM card has an email address in it, it should work fine. If there is more than one email address you can type right-arrow in the 3rd pane to "go into" the card and select one of the addresses.

The main issue is that the third panel doesn't load the actual email
address as a target, but gets a "mailto:address"; or the address book
card?

Anyway, this used to work 3-4 months before (when I had just changed
to Leopard) on an intel imac and macbook.
