Your solution works fine and speeds up content search a lot.

The (minor) drawback of this multi step solution is that the search results 
are only displayed once and are not cached. Example:
1. Content search (alternatively via trigger)
1.1 "Bring up the folder in the first pane"
1.2 "Select the Spotlight Contents... action in the second pane"
1.3 "Enter the search string in the third pane, and press return."
2. Step into a result with rightarrow key
3. Step back with the leftarrow key
=> The results of the previous search are not available anymore.
