The configuration script is very confusing - lots of things that are in
the book as optional deps are in the script, but they don't appear in the
output. At the moment, I've got a problem agreeing the build times - when
I first built it on this system (without static libs) it took 618 seconds
(3.6 SBU), and used 152 MB of which 16.1 MB was the installed files.
Since then I've installed gnumeric [ goffice eas already installed ],
gstreamer plugins, totem, gnome-media, boost, and gnash. Testing yesterday
and the day before, the build was taking more than twice as long. After
going through the logs line-by-line I realised that the static libs were
probably the cause. My build is now *only* 20% longer than the first
time, but twice as big, with 44.6 MB installed. This is with the boost
headers moved out of the way, in case boost was the issue. I'll keep
mulling this one over, trying to find what is making the build so
different.
