I am now convinced that a branch for GCC4 in BLFS is not necessary. There isn't that much that is going to be changed, and maintenance of the branch would be a lot of extra work. I haven't test much multimedia stuff yet, and packages that use assembler will be tricky, but we can work through this I think in another manner. Instead of a branch, I propose that we update the BLFS main website with note about building using GCC-4 and provide a link to a page I will create that has information about packages that need patching. This is all that is really necessary. A central page to point users on which packages need patches and where the patches can be found. Users using the GCC-4 branch of LFS should be knowledgeable enough to know how to apply the patches. This seems so much easier to me. I will create the page and update this list with the URL when it is complete. In the meantime suggestions about the new proposal are welcome. -- Randy rmlscsi: [GNU ld version 2.15.94.0.2 20041220] [gcc (GCC) 3.4.3] [GNU C Library stable release version 2.3.4] [Linux 2.6.10 i686] 15:45:00 up 129 days, 15:18, 2 users, load average: 1.00, 1.00, 1.08 -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
