I only use latex, and I only install a few packages, beamer being an
example. I've never had any problem installing them. What kind of
problems are you seeing?

For my personal needs, I prefer easier install instructions that work to
complicated install instructions that also work. I think the more
complicated, "philosophically correct" instructions (and the amount of
work involved on your part) would only be justified if the current way
broke something down the line.
