I'm seeing some odd behavior/bugginess with Gamin. If I open a folder with a lot of files in it with Nautilus it seems too stall and never finish. For instance, I just mounted a partition which has Ubuntu on it and opened ubuntu's /usr/bin with Nautilus. It stalled and now Gamin doesn't seem to be working properly. For instance, it's not updating my desktop. I've seen this before and the only solution I know to fix it is to reboot. But I can't reboot just now because I'm compiling something. I think I may go back to FAM. Although it needed tcpwrappers and portmap, it was more reliable.
