I propose to add a new paragraph/section explaining the kernel setup for ALSA. IMHO it is OK to mention the alternatives: in-kernel and external ALSA drivers.

But where do you propose to set this up?

It would not be appropriate to the ALSA-lib section, nor any other
BLFS section. It would be appropriate to the ALSA-driver section.

Alas, this is in LFS. Understand, I am not disagreeing with placing
pertinent information in BLFS, but where do we put this stuff? It
simply doesn't belong with any of the current BLFS ALSA sections.

Well, it deals with modules which could be discussed in Post-LFS config, however, right now AFAIK, we don't suggest a modprobe.d/ setup yet. It fits perfectly in that section, but not just for alsa. I'm also in favor of putting back alsa-drivers, but not willing to commit to doing this myself. OOo and JDK are large and time consuming, though they are finally coming to a close. This also begs of another page dedicated to udev to explain it all, but as Bruce mentioned earlier, it will have to wait until we see what is presented in LFS.
