In the bug, I reported a 2x slowdown. However,
1) it happens only on huge bitmaps that are uncommon
2) owners of slow machines won't build LFS
3) Your --with-gs-aa-params switch should be "-sDEVICE=x11alpha
-dNOPLATFONTS" to match the old default, and it should be clearly stated
that it is only for Pentium MMX-166 or slower machines.
No runtime configuration is planned, because this contraditcs the HIG.
